The John Wesley Work House, Fisk University

These photographs are from the restoration of the John Wesley Work House at Fisk University in Nashville, a building on the National Register of Historic Places. Mike Rose, who went on to found Blue Springs Construction, was the project manager on it in 2011 for Rock City Construction, under National Parks Service historic preservation grants.

The grant terms required that as much original woodwork as possible be preserved, and that any new work match the original while staying identifiable as new. The fireplace mantels were left unfinished for exactly that reason, and matching tile and brick took months to source.
